THE ALEPPO SHRINE (AAONMS)
ORIENTAL BAND NEWS FOR THE YEAR 2015
CELEBRATING OUR 64TH YEAR
The above is the official logo of the Aleppo Shrine (AAONMS) Oriental Band.
ALEPPO 2015 POTENTATE
DAVID RAYMOND
We made it through our winter sabbatical without anything exceptional happening during it and we were all pleased that was the case.
Following our Winter/Holiday recess, we resumed our rehearsals on January 8, 2015 as we began our SIXTY-FOURTH YEAR as a Unit.
Next year, the Unit becomes eligible for Medicare and the year after, it becomes eligible to retire and pursue Social Security benefits.
Fret not, it is highly unlikely that any of these tempting prospects will be pursued by us.
RATHER THAN BE REPETITIOUS, BELOW PLEASE FIND THE LINK TO THE VIDEOS WE HAVE POSTED AND WILL BE POSTING TO YOUTUBE. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY

On January 8, 2015 we received hard printed copies of the ASOB (The Association of Shrine Oriental Bands) Magazine, NA KHABAR.
It appears that the By-Laws of the organization have been changed to permit one annual copy.
We do not know if they listened to us or just realized that it was inconvenient and untenable to run the organization without such a product.
On January 24, 2015, a messy snowstorm impacted our ability to fully participate in the Aleppo Ceremonial in Wilmington, Massachusetts.
Though there was a reasonable turnout of members, there was an inadequate mix or balance of instruments so it was determined to not
fully participate. It is at this Ceremonial that the
Officers of Aleppo are installed for the year. We would like to congratulate everyone who progressed along the Line, wish them a good year,
and look forward to
working with them throughout the year. Despite the conditions of the day, those who attended the Ceremonial had an enjoyable time there.
ALEPPO 2015 SECOND CEREMONIAL MASTER
ROBERT S. JOHNSON
We would also like to welcome NOBLE ROB JOHNSON as Second Ceremonial Master on the Aleppo Divan Line. Rob was a former Director
of the Oriental Band and we are well aware of his abilities. We commend his choice and look forward to his progress on the line.
We wish him the best in his new Shrine Role and would like to remind him that we continue to practice on Thursday evenings.
Following our limited participation in the January Ceremonial, Mother Nature decided to torment us for several weeks with record
snowfalls and record low temperatures. Several rehearsals had to be cancelled and, by the time it was all over, communities had
exhausted their snow budgets and had to prioritize accordingly. Regrettably that seems to mean that some parades were cancelled
and others remain in jeopardy. Amongst the more notable cancellations was the Arlington, Massachusetts Patriot's Day Parade which
traditionally kicks off the parading season for us. Without a proper beginning to the season, things seem to be in a bit of limbo
for the rest of the year but we are all hopeful that everything will work out. As fate would have it, the Lexington, Massachusetts
Patriot's Day Parade was also cancelled due to weather conditions on the day it was to be held. We are left to wonder what might have
happened had there been adverse weather some 240 years ago - would they have called off the Revolutionary War or what!
Glorious spring weather greeted us for our participation in the Somerville, Massachusetts Memorial Day Parade which was held on
May 24, 2015. A reasonable turnout of Band Members but a smaller than usual crowd of onlookers (others were probably out and about
enjoying the day) made for an enjoyable day and a good performance despite the fact that, for some strange reason, the reeds on the
musettes gave out towards the end of the parade and that made for some interesting sounds - things like that do happen occasionally and,
unfortunately, they are beyond our control.
On May 25, 2015, we participated in the Wilmington, Massachusetts Memorial Day Parade. Another good turnout of Band Members and
onlookers and another spectacular day made for another enjoyable day and good performance especially since our musette reeds held up
for the entire event. Wilmington is our hometown and we
always enjoy participating in this Parade as a way of thanking them for putting up with us throughout the year.
On June 6, 2015, we participated in the Annual Angus Steak / Strawberry Festival Ceremonial held at the Aleppo Shrine Building in
Wilmington, MA. Logistics for the day made our performance short and sweet and one well done to everyone's satisfaction. Humidity
took a number on our horn reeds and produced some unique sounds. One number that we traditionally do at such events is done with
a solo horn and that suffered the most causing us to wonder if we should change the routine to accommodate more than one horn in
the future. But, all-in-all, things went well.
On June 27, 2015, we participated in the Braintree, Massachusetts Independence Day Parade. It had been several years since we last
did this Parade and our recollection of our last outing here was not a very positive one so we had some concerns. However, we are happy to
report that, whereas our last outing in Braintree was a bit of a fiasco, the years since then produced a far better organized and executed
product. We enjoyed the Parade, commend those in charge who made such a big difference this year and hope and believe that we added something to
everyone's enjoyment of the day.
We did not attend the Shrine Imperial Session in Houston, Texas but hope that all who did had an enjoyable time there. At the Session NOBLE JEFFREY
MOORES from MELHA SHRINE, son of NOBLE DONALD MOORES (a former President of ASOB) and the late LADY GLENDA MOORES from AMARA SHRINE, was elected
President of ASOB (The Association of Shrine Oriental Bands - the National Organization of Shrine Oriental Bands). We congratulate NOBLE JEFF on his
election and wish him and ASOB a wonderful year under his guidance.
